Hardiness Zones 6-10
The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location.
Care Information
General Care
Watering: Agapanthus should be watered once or twice weekly. Water as needed if the surrounding soil 2-3 inches beneath is dry. Fertilizing: Use an all-purpose fertilizer once in the springtime and again in summer or fall. Pruning: Remove any spent blooms to promote more flowering.
Planting Guidelines
Agapanthus prefers an area with well-drained soil and 6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily. Once you’ve found select a location, dig a hole that’s about one to two times the width of your plant’s root ball. After digging, place your plant, backfill your soil and water to settle the roots.
Winter Care
Agapanthus are cold sensitive, plant them a few inches deeper then cover them with a thick layer of mulch to protect them from the cold of winter. You can also bring them indoors during the winter months.
Potting & Container
Agapanthus grow well in containers and can be brought indoors during the winter. If you’re planting in a container, select one that is about one and a half times the width of your plant. Use regular potting soil and a slow-release fertilizer. Only water them when the soil is dry. Place it near a southwest facing window to ensure it receives maximum sunlight.
